Someone once asked one of my friends what the best grout cleaning method is. I suppose the premise was, being in the grout business, he can just mention the best cleansing household formula. I didn't know what that person was thinking asking a grout cleaner how to clean grout herself, but hey, that's her call. My friend, being polite, jokingly told her that vinegar works like a charm (even though it doesn't).
This happened quite some time ago, but I remembered that bit of bad advice whilst I was surfing the Internet recently. I browsed a person inquiring about what other people think is the best remedy to dirty grout. And surprisingly, most people seem to think that vinegar is the best solution to dirty grout! Huh. I wonder if my friend had a hand in perpetuating this myth?
Well, I suppose vinegar would probably work. It is essentially a mild acid, after all. With a bit of elbow grease and patience, I guess you will be able to clean up certain amounts of dirt in the grout, plus a few kinds of mold. But, really, I must insist on not using vinegar. It doesn't clean that properly, and plain detergent even works better.
If you live here in Tampa, all you have to do is to look for the grout experts to do the job properly. Do not waste time and money spending on homebrew remedies that are untested; your own time and money could be invested in more profitable things than cleaning your own house.
Avoid the trap of thinking you save by not getting someone to clean for you. Cleaning grout, without the proper equipment, will take a long time, no matter what type of miracle brew you come up with. Time is money, and don't spend it cleaning up when someone else can do it for your benefit. .
